<div>
I just couldn't resist buying some discontinued colours of thin alpaca in my local yarn shop, and came home to find more of the same yarn only in different colours! I could see they would look good as stripes, and my leftover Koigu yarn to bind them nicely together. </div>
<div>
For my lucky 3 year old, I chose to knit a simple top-down raglan jumper. Even though it's so much work fastening all those threads, I had quite fun! I might even make my own grown up size. :)</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
</i> </div>
<div>
<i>Min heldige 3 åring har fått en genser jeg strikket fra halsen og ned, med raglan.</i></div>
<div>
<i>Det blir mange tråder å feste, men likevel et gøy prosjekt! Tror nesten jeg må strikke en til meg selv. :)</i></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Det er alltid gøy å komme tilbake til denne jakken. En periode kom det så mange babyer at jeg omtrent kunne strikke den uten oppskriften. Oppskriften kan du kjøpe <a href="http://www.schoolhousepress.com/patterns.htm" target="_blank">her</a>. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><i>I always enjoy knitting the Baby surprise jacket. For a period there were so many babies coming that I made it without instructions. (You can buy instructions for this jacket <a href="http://www.schoolhousepress.com/patterns.htm" target="_blank">here</a>.) This model opens up for a great variety in colour patterns. The shape of it allows for wearing as a roomy jacket for a little baby, and as a short sleeved little cardi for bigger babies. Elizabeth Zimmerman made so many clever designs. If you don't already know about her, you make sure to do some googling!</i></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Nytt år, nye muligheter!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">På bildet ser du genseren jeg strikket i sommer. Den er helt klart mitt mest brukte plagg siden den var ferdig! Mer om den i neste post. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><i>A new year with new opportunities!</i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><i>Sometimes I might be a bit too optimistic about the amount of projects I'll be able to finish, but I really do believe I will get more done this year! After a nice, quiet, but still busy year at home with my baby Lillesnupp, she has started going to nursery, and I am working 60%. I hope I will find enough time to get some good knitting flow. I have also started up my Etsy shop, which lacks photos, logo and stuff to sell. Cross fingers for an efficient and productive time ahead. Who knows, it might generate some money....for even more yarn?</i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><i><br /></i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><i>I'm not a big fan of New Year's resolutions, since they are made to fail..but I do like to start a year with some new energy and determination! My loft is full of ongoing projects, the bags are still full of leftover yarn, my head still spins with idèas, and Lillesnupp keeps growing at great speed. I have no reason to put my needles down!</i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><i>On the photo above, you can see the jumper I knitted last summer. It is by far my most worn garment since I finished it! You can read more about it in my next blog post.</i></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hello blog! Just checking in to wipe the dust off.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here is a photo of my summer project. A friend of mine sent me a moving box full of leftover yarn, amongst them lots of odd balls of cotton. I find cotton pretty annoying to knit with, but it works pretty well with a crochet hook! I've seen some amazing granny blanket projects on Ravelry, and decided to give it a go myself. Pretty happy with the look of it so far!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Summer has been very busy. House hounting, moving, redecorating, and spending time with baby girl! I have finished a great jumper made of blue mohair, and will come back to that later.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Have a great late summer!</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">On our trip to Scotland we took a little day trip to Edinburgh, and I managed to peek into <a href="http://www.k1yarns.co.uk/" target="_blank">K1</a> yarn shop. I bought some <a href="http://www.k1yarns.co.uk/scappa-dk-22-c.asp" target="_blank">Scappa</a> yarn in the colours Iona Marble and Scotch Pine. I decided to make a short sleeved jumper for my girl who is eight months old. At that age they are crawling about much on the floor, which can be a slidy affair with long sleeves. If made slightly big it can be used as a tunic at first. As your kid grows, it can be used as a jumper. This is roughly how I made mine:</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Pick a jumper or cardigan for measuring and comparing, either in a size that fits at the moment, or a bigger one to grow into. Measure the bottom edge. Find your <a href="http://www.gaugefy.com/#" target="_blank">gauge</a>, and cast on the amount of stitches you need to achieve the right size on a round needle. Knit garter stitch in any colour combination you would like. (I made a stripy pattern by knitting two rows with colour A, and four rows with colour B, and reversed the colour scheme halfway.) Knit up to the point where you think you can start with the arms.</span></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d;">As you reach the armholes, mark one stitch on each side. Increase with two stitches under each arm every second row (on each side of marked stitch). Repeat two times. Total increase: 12 stitches.</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now you will start knitting back and forth, the back and front separate. Start from left armhole. Before turning your work around, cast on three stitches. Turn work, and knit to right armhole, cast on three new stitches before turning work again. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Continue straight till you feel you have the right width for the arms. (Or knit on a bit longer for wider sleeves.)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">(If you wish for the neckline to drop slightly at the front, find out the amount of stitches to keep for the collar, and keep it on the needle while knitting four extra rows on each shoulder.)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Knit the backside the same way as the front. Knit it straight up, without any neckline shaping. (The back should have the same amount of rows as the shoulders of the front.) </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Keep the same amount of neckline stitches on the back piece as on the front.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Cast off the shoulder stitches and sew front and back together, OR <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ilQ1ogDiyw" target="_blank">graft</a> the stitches together. (If you want to button the shoulders instead, simply cast off each piece, sew on buttons and make loops. This gives you the chance to make a smaller neckline.)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now, you should have your neckline stitches left on your needle. If you knitted extra rows to shape the neckline, pick one stitch from each row on each side. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I made a roll neck by knitting sock stitch for about 8 rows. (Dependig on the width of the neckline, you might have to use 4 or 5 sock needles for this.)</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d;">Pick up the stitches around the armhole with sock needles. Knit a few rows to make a nice edge, or knit on to make a proper sleeve.</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #0c343d;">Fasten threads, do a quick soak, spin and let it dry flat, and it is ready for the lucky new owner!</span></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Easter is here, and we're packing up for a Scotland holiday! </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I always bring a project, but usually don't get to do any </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">knitting anyway. But I'm optimistic this time, as we're going </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">away for two weeks. So I'm bringing yarn for some small projects like baby jackets and norwegian mittens. My cardigan project can stay at home and have a rest in the meantime!</span></div>

I also happened to have lots of brown tweed yarn from a stranded project, and thought this project would be a good way to use it. The buttons are made of pewter, and are normally used on traditional Norwegian cardigans. I think it turned out really nice, and look forward to wear it! </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Edith Piaf, what a life, what a passion! And in between those tragic and fantastic events in her life, she managed to do some knitting! Although there are photos of her knitting with both white and red yarn, I think she mostly knitted with black yarn. An idea for a black cardigan is resting at the back of my mind until I have plowed through my ongoing projects. </span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06086312765066177364noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-177391476684265295.post-46698313480338815302013-01-02T02:35:00.000-08:002013-01-02T02:35:23.078-08:00MY NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Happy new year to you all! I hope you've had a nice holiday. Maybe you even managed to do some knitting? I think I knitted three stitches in total, as we've been busy visiting family and being ill. I'm just about back in shape now, and I'm ready to get going on my projects again. A few weeks ago I was getting a bit frustrated about the amount of projects going on at the same time. They clog up on me, as I like having a few going on at the same time for variation. But too many just keeps me from finishing any at all, so I decided on having a New Year's resolution. I am going to be better at <i>focusing</i> on, and <i>finishing</i> my projects. I will ignore my restlessness, and keep going! Right now I have quite a pile of work waiting for me, so there should be some finished garments popping up here sometime soon.</span></div>

I think this natural colour will be the right thing for this design. The design has been processed again and again in my head for quite a while now, and will not be a making-up-as-you-go project. Since the little <a href="http://jumperknit.blogspot.no/2012/11/testing-out-ideas.html" target="_blank">rib jacket</a> worked out so nicely, I've decided to make one for myself! I'm using the same type of yarn, and have chosen ochre, which I think is a nice colour for all seasons. And I happened to find perfect buttons for it as well! I will make notes as I go, and share instructions with you when I'm done.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.livogglede.no/dyra.htm" target="_blank">Norwegian spælsau via Liv og Glede</a></div>
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><i>Cleaning wool garments might seem like a difficult an risky task to many. Here are some tips on how you can treat your wooly stuff. </i></span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-Keep the yarn label with washing instructions when you knit a garment. Have a book with notes on what you knitted with which yarn, so that you can go back for washing instructions in case you forget.</span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-Wool labeled to be machine washed should be machine washed. The result is usually better than hand wash. One of the reasons might be that a machine is best at rinsing out the soap. These yarns are also usually treated so that they don't shrink.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-Make sure to use the right type of detergent, and don't use softener when it says "do not use softener", as some might feel tempted to do so anyway. Don't use normal detergent, as these have enzymes that can break and damage wool fibers.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-Don't soak wool. When in soapy water, treat the garment carefully. Squeeze the water out without twisting and do the same twice in clean water, or as many times you need until the soap is gone. </span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif; font-weight: bold;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><b>-Keep the same temperature at all times!</b></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> Don't rinse in cold water, but the same temperature you washed with. It's not necessarily hot water that shrinks wool, but temperature changes and movement.</span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-Fleece yarn, or loosely spun yarn will felt in a machine. If you don't wish for that result, hands and bucket is the best way to do it.</span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-When you hand wash chunky and/or big garments, you can send it for a short spin in your machine. That way you save days of drying. </span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-Don't hang your knitted wear over a line or on a hanger to dry. It will stretch and loose its/take another shape. Lie it down flat, with a thick towel underneath. Turn it every now and then so that it dries on both sides. If it's a light weight or small piece of garment (or has had a spin), you can hang it over two or three lines on your drying rack. </span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-Steam iron your wool wear on the wrong side. Not only for the best looking result, but also to flatten fibers so that you avoid bumps. Make sure to use the right temperature.</span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-Remove bumps. Wool is not necessarily of bad quality if it makes bumps. Some yarn types have more loose and/or short fibers, which turns into bumps when exposed to friction, usually under arms. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Bumps are lightly to "steal" more fibers, so make sure to take them off when they appear. There are battery driven bump removers, but be careful when you use them, as they can eat their way into the garment.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">If you are a knitter that simply hates bumps, you'll have to stick with sport yarns, sock yarns, and other yarns that have several threads spun together.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-Last but not least: wool wear doesn't really need to be washed very often. If it smells, hang it outside for a few hours, and it will smell fresh again! If you spilled something on it, you can probably remove the spot without putting the whole garment in water. But remember that </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><i>dirty</i></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> clothes wear faster...</span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Save up wool stuff for a wool washing day. But do it often enough so that you don't run out of stuff to wear in the mean time! (I usually clean smaller stuff in the bathroom sink whenever I need to, and keep bigger stuff in a pile for a washing day.) It might not be great fun, but is definitely worth it. Your garments will be happy, pretty and age with grace!</span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I did mention earlier in <a href="http://jumperknit.blogspot.no/2012/11/spiders-web.html" target="_blank">this</a> post that I don't like knitting lace. I still feel the same, if not stronger after struggling and making mistakes with the spider's web project. But despite my lace frustration I have managed to finish a scarf, and actually had quite fun doing it!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I wanted to find one technique that looks like lace, but is easy enough for me to do. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">With lace you often have to repeat a series of several varying rows to make one section of the pattern. But the one I have used to make this scarf has only one! The only variation is how many stitches you knit (2 and 3) before you start knitting the pattern on the right side of the project. This is all you need to create the pattern, and after a while you might even remember what to do without looking at the instructions. Again, the pattern ("vine lace") is picked from Barbara Walkers <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Second-Treasury-Knitting-Patterns/dp/0942018176/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1353068567&sr=1-2&keywords=knitting+treasury" target="_blank">knitting treasury</a>.</span><br />

For example: how does the yarn work with different sizes of needles? Or what pattern and which technique works with different types of yarn? Can I make a pocket, does that work on this design? And what about the collar?</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I keep this in mind whenever I knit for babies. Knitting a mini-garment is a great way of testing things out. Although certain things works out very differently on adult wear and baby wear, I still get an image on how to bring my experience from the mini version into the adult sized garment.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">This little jacket is one of my tests. Although it is a very simple design, I wanted to see how the yarn worked with raglan sleeve and press buttons. A collar seemed like too much for a little one, so I will have to deal with that issue when I knit this model for myself. The rib knit makes it thick, soft and light. I can only imagine how cozy it will be on a cold winter's day!</span><br />

</tbody></table>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">The inspiration for this jacket came when I watched the film Madicken, which is based on a story written by <a href="http://www.astridlindgren.se/en" target="_blank"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #45818e;">Astrid Lindgren</span></a>. I happened to have some of <a href="http://www.sandnesgarn.no/garn/fritidsgarn-2103" target="_blank"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #45818e;">this yarn</span></a> in my stash, and needed only two skeins to make a size 3-6 months (using another cardi for measuring). With European needle size 5,5 as recommended for this yarn, I knitted from the top. To me that is the best way when knitting raglan sleeves. This yarn is loosely spun and can also be felted. When the little jacket was finished, I washed it by hand, carefully rubbing it in foamy soap to soften the fibers a bit. I will note down and share instructions for the adult version!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><i>PS: Next time I knit this jacket for a baby, it will be slightly shorter, but have longer arms to fold up if needed. </i></span><br />

The most beautiful tweed yarn comes from <a href="http://brooklyntweed.net/" target="_blank">Brooklyn Tweed</a>!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Not only do they make a beautiful range of colours, they also have great designers putting together collections of contemporary, yet nostalgic design for them every season. </div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">A friend gave me this ball of yarn, but there was no label on it. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I think it might be goat hair, as it is very stiff and tightly spun, a thin yarn of long, natural white and grey hairs. Since this ball has no matching partner, what is better than makin a narrow, open laced scarf to make the most out of it? So I am challenging myself with the Starlight lace, which can be found in <a href="http://www.amazon.com/A-Second-Treasury-Knitting-Patterns/dp/0942018176/ref=pd_sim_b_1" target="_blank"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #45818e;">this book</span></a> by Barbara Walker. The book is number two out of four books presenting a great collection of lace, cables and other techniques. Very useful if you make your own design, or just want to learn more about knitting.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Although I don't hate knitting lace, I don't love it either.. I can't watch the tellie or be social while doing it! Instead I have to keep my nose down into a book and at all times keep track on which row I'm on, phew! Some laces are easy, especially when they only require two varying rows. But many laces have more than 10 rows of different technique, which makes me stay as far away from them as possible! Wish me luck on this one...</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #444444; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I often buy single skeins of yarns to test it out with different techniques. And because I prefer certain types of yarn, I seem to end up with a few skeins of the same type and brand, in a variety of colours. The yarn I have used in this project is a 2-ply 100% wool yarn that can be used for felting. But it works fine in normal knit as well, as long as it is washed carefully. It comes in a range of beautiful and rich colours.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #444444; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">This little suit looks like a cowboy's underwear! With garter stitch I</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #444444; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> knitted raglan from neck and down, measuring against another baby suit as I went on. I divided the stitches in two for legs and cast off a few stitches between them. In the end I knitted a piece of soft baby alpaca at the end of each sleeve, and made a nice edging with a crochet needle for the buttons. This yarn is quite rough on anyones skin, but since the little cowboy will wear something under anyway, I don't think it matters. Must admit I'm a bit jealous on cold days! </span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Since I was little, I have loved knitting. But up to a few years ago I never tried to follow instructions, and most of my funny looking projects stranded in plastic bags under my sofa. In order to make my own design, I realized I needed more knowledge. I ordered a few books (I will write about them later), and they helped me understand the basics of constructing knitted garments.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There are some great knitting websites and blogs out there. But I've struggled to find inspiring blogs that also have simple and basic instructions on how to knit and construct. This will not be a step-by-step blog, but I will try to share my knowledge in a comprehensible way, which hopefully will inspire other knitters to make their own design.</span><br />
